Proofreading texts in Brazilian Portuguese
Proofreading consists of a thorough review of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization, along with checking for mistranslations, omissions and consistency issues. I will also make sure any relevant glossaries were followed. The purpose is to ensure an error-free text, but it will not be re-written or adapted, remaining faithful to the original draft or translation in style.
On average, I can check about 1,000 words per hour, but that can vary greatly. How much time I need for proofreading depends on the quality of the original work, which means that more complex corrections will be more time consuming. For this reason, I apply an hourly rate for proofreading instead of charging by the word.
There are times when we all could use an extra brain and a second pair of eyes to hit the i on the dot (I mean, the nail on the head!) – I know exactly whom I can trust so if you would like me to team up with a trusted colleague for an above-and-beyond experience, just say the word.
There’s a great power in words, if you don’t hitch too many of them together.
What is the quality of your documents?
For an exact non-binding quote, please send me a copy of your documents and I will estimate the working time. It is also important that you provide your glossaries, if any. In case of translations, it’s important to have the source (original) text for comparison. Please note that during proofreading, the translation will not be re-written nor will the style by changed. See Editing for comparison.
You can rest assured that I will treat any materials sent to me with the utmost discretion and confidentiality. In case we cannot reach an agreement, I will erase those files from my computer.
